James Dunn and his wife Isabella Caufield, natives of northern Ireland, sailed from Belfast to America early in the nineteenth century. After a brief residence in South Carolina they moved in 1825 to Alabama. There they lived until 1833, when they moved to Texas. In January 1834, they arrived at Staggers Point (now Benchley) in the Irish settlement. Shortly afterwards they moved to Wheelock Prairie, where they located their headright in 1834. There Dunn built a log house that became the nucleus of a frontier settlement later fortified by a stockade,
it was called Dunn's Fort in 1837. It was a place of refuge from Indian attacks and the seat of the Land Office during the colonial period. During the runaway-scrape it provided refuge for settlers from the south and west. During his twenty three years in Texas Dunn was engaged mainly in locating land and he became the owner of large tracts of wild lands. He also acquired and raised large herds of cattle. He died in August 1852; his wife died in August 1863. FAMILY INFORMATION: Isabella married after 1866 to a "Yarbro" or "Yarbo" (family could not spell it). She died a few years after Oscar married Alice (Alexander) McNellege in 1894. Supposedly buried in Brushy Cemetery, Leon Co., TX.
About 1890, Isabella's sister Charlotte, who never married, lived with brother Oscar. She was crippled, took sick and some information says she was in a wheel chair. Oscar went to Oakwood and hired Alice to come and take care of her. In 1894 Oscar and Alice married. Alice had known both Isabella and her daughter Pearl while living in Oakwood. Oscar and Alice had a daughter in 1895 -- Ruth Elizabeth who married Clint P. Mullenax in 1914 in Oakwood, Leon Co., TX. They had a daughter in 1921 -- named it "Pearl Alice". She died at six months of age. They were visiting Grandma Alice when the baby died. Buried in Brushy Cemetery, next to grandmother Martha Delphenia (Hosmer) Mullenax. When asked why she named her 'Pearl Alice', she said "For my father's niece, Pearl (Isabella's daughter) and my mother Alice Beggs.
It is therefore my belief that she married W. B. YARBOROUGH, based on this information and census records.
