Richard in Pike Co., Mo. 1870 Federal Census, Married Martha A. Irwin in 1875 in
Limestone Co., Texas. In 1880 he is not listed in the census but since His and
Martha's last child was born in Limestone Co., Texas in 1881, when Martha died,
he was most likely in Limestone. For some
reason after Martha dies, 1881 and 1884 Richard is in Sugarloaf Arkansas. There
were Burks there so he may have followed family. Nancie " Nannie Belle" Cherry
is married to a James B. Norried in 1880 in the Sugarloaf Arkansas Federal
Census. Copies in the NARA show records (criminal charges) filed by James B.
Norried charging Nannie with Bigamay charges. States she and Richard (Dick) Buks
were married 1884 Western District of Arkansas. Richard and Nannie then show up
back in Limestone, untill Richards death in 1891. Robert L. Burks, states that
Edgar Earl Burks, son of Richard and some other men were on their way to
Lousiana for supplies when Richard became ill, most likely pnuemnia, since it
was in January. He was unable to travel any futher so they had to leave him
where ever they were at and were going to stop back by on the way back and pick
him up. When the men returned to get Richard he had died while they were gone.
Richard could have died in Texas or Louisiana if this story is true. Have not
been able to confirm this info. Nancie married William A Burch a couple of
months later, sold the farm and moved to San Augustine, Texas.
Edgar Earl Burks and brother Luther Pal Burks were also with Nannie and Will
when they came to San Augustine.
